3D Models for iClone

FBX and OBJ assets compatible with Reallusion iClone 8 and Character Creator 4. Characters, props, vehicles, and environments from independent creators — pay once, animate forever.

Import Formats for iClone 8

iClone 8 supports several import paths depending on the asset type and how much of iClone's animation pipeline you want to use.

FormatiClone import pathBest forPro tip
FBXFile → Import → FBX → Bone mapping UIRigged characters, vehicles, animated propsUse standard humanoid hierarchy for automatic bone mapping. Apply all transforms before export in Blender.
OBJFile → Import → OBJ → placed as prop in sceneStatic environment props, furniture, set dressingKeep OBJ and MTL in the same folder. iClone reads MTL material names for texture assignment.
FBX (CC4 pipeline)Import into Character Creator 4 → Send to iClone via Live LinkFull G8-rigged characters with facial morphs and cloth simulationFor characters that need iClone's full facial animation system, the CC4 pipeline is required. Non-CC4 FBX characters support body animation but not full facial expressions.

Why iClone Animators Use Proofly

3D preview before purchase

Inspect character topology, joint placement, and surface quality in the browser before downloading. No more importing an FBX into iClone only to find broken weights or inverted geometry.

Exact polygon counts on listings

Every Proofly listing shows the polygon count. For iClone cinematic work, match your hero character budget (60k–100k polys) vs background characters (5k–15k) directly from the filter.

Multiple formats in one purchase

Many listings include FBX for rigged animation plus OBJ for set dressing or static reference. Check the Files tab before buying to see every format included.

Commercial licenses for production

Client work, monetized YouTube animations, and broadcast productions need commercial rights. Every Proofly listing shows its license — Commercial covers production use; Extended covers sold derivative works.

HiddenMark piracy protection

Each purchase is watermarked with HiddenMark — an invisible identifier in the mesh. Protects both the creator and confirms genuine asset ownership for production documentation.

Creators keep 100% of the price

Proofly charges no commission from creators. A $20 iClone prop yields $20 for the creator — far more than commission-based asset stores. More money to creators means more quality assets available.

Importing Proofly Models into iClone 8

FBX character — body animation

  1. Download the .fbx file from Proofly
  2. In iClone 8: File → Import → FBX
  3. In the bone mapping dialog, match imported bones to iClone's internal skeleton labels (Pelvis, Spine, etc.)
  4. Click Import — the character appears in the scene with a standard motion layer
  5. Apply BVH motion clips or iClone motion presets via the Motion Layer panel
  6. Note: external FBX characters use body animation; facial expressions require the CC4 pipeline (see below)

FBX prop or vehicle

  1. In iClone 8: File → Import → FBX or drag into the Scene viewport
  2. Scale and position the prop in the scene
  3. For animated props (doors, wheels): check if the FBX includes animation tracks — iClone plays them via the Timeline
  4. Add iClone collision and physics via the Props panel as needed

Via Character Creator 4 (full facial pipeline)

  1. Import the FBX base mesh into Character Creator 4
  2. Use CC4's retopo tools or Headshot 2 to map the mesh to the G8 standard
  3. Rig to the G8 bone structure for full iClone facial expression support
  4. Send to iClone via Create → Send Character to iClone (Live Link)

FAQ — 3D Models for iClone

What 3D formats does iClone 8 import?

iClone 8 imports FBX (the primary format for characters and rigged props), OBJ (static props and environment pieces), and iClone's native iAvatar/iProp formats. FBX is recommended for anything with a rig — iClone reads FBX bone hierarchies and can retarget animations to its internal G8 skeleton. For static scene props, OBJ with an MTL file works well. iClone also connects directly to Character Creator 4 (CC4) — characters created or imported in CC4 can be sent to iClone via the Live Link or as .iAvatar export.

Can I import external FBX characters into iClone?

Yes — iClone 8 can import external FBX characters via File → Import → FBX. For best results, the FBX should use a standard humanoid bone structure (pelvis, spine, chest, shoulder, arm, hand, leg, foot hierarchy). After import, iClone's bone-mapping UI lets you match the imported skeleton to its internal structure for motion retargeting. Characters imported this way support BVH motion clips and iClone's built-in animation tools. Complex custom rigs (non-humanoid, extra facial bones) may need manual mapping.

What is the best poly count for iClone characters?

iClone 8 targets real-time rendering with DirectX 12 and Iray for final renders. For real-time performance with multiple characters in a scene, aim for 20,000–60,000 polygons per character — detailed enough for close-up shots without impacting viewport fps. For hero characters in cinematic work, up to 100,000–200,000 polygons is manageable. Background/crowd characters should be 5,000–15,000 tris. Proofly shows exact polygon counts on every listing so you can filter to your scene budget.

What is Character Creator 4 and how does it relate to iClone?

Character Creator 4 (CC4) is Reallusion's dedicated character creation and rigging tool — it uses the same G8 skeleton as iClone and integrates directly with it. Characters modeled or modified in CC4 use the CC4 bone standard, which supports full body, facial morphs, and cloth simulation. You can import a third-party FBX character into CC4 for retopology and rigging to the G8 standard, then push it to iClone via Live Link for animation. Base meshes from Proofly can serve as the starting point for CC4 character customization.

Can I use commercially purchased 3D models in iClone animations for client work?

Yes — as long as the model's license permits commercial use in animations and videos. Most Proofly models with a Commercial license cover use in client animations, YouTube monetized videos, corporate presentations, and films. Extended licenses cover selling the animation output as a template or reselling character appearances. Personal-licensed models cover personal, non-commercial productions only. Each Proofly listing displays its license clearly — check the license badge before purchasing for commercial productions.
