What OrcaSlicer Users Print from Proofly

Functional Parts & Engineering

Brackets, tool holders, cable management, and replacement parts. OrcaSlicer's pressure advance and flow calibration tools help dial in tight tolerances for mechanical fits. Designed with 3+ walls for structural strength.

Miniatures & Tabletop Gaming

Detailed miniatures for D&D, Warhammer, and board games. OrcaSlicer's 0.1mm layer height capability and fine support settings let you push FDM detail for 28–32mm scale figures.

Cosplay Props & Armor

Large segmented armor and costume pieces. OrcaSlicer's plate arrangement and cut tools let you split oversized props into print-bed-sized sections with alignment features.

Multi-Color AMS Prints

Models pre-colored for Bambu AMS or MMU2 multi-material printing. OrcaSlicer's color painting tool lets you assign filament colors to any model face. 3MF files with AMS assignments are especially popular.

Decorative & Home Decor

Vases, sculptures, wall art, and low-poly decorations. OrcaSlicer's vase mode (spiral contour) creates seamless single-wall prints. Many models include recommended OrcaSlicer print profiles.

Characters & Collectibles

Fan art, original characters, and display figures with detailed surface textures. OrcaSlicer's tree support algorithm provides clean support removal on organic shapes.

Slicing Models from Proofly in OrcaSlicer

Step-by-step: STL → OrcaSlicer → Print

  1. Download your STL or 3MF file from Proofly
  2. Open OrcaSlicer and drag the file onto the build plate, or File → Import Model
  3. Select your printer profile and filament (PLA/PETG/ABS/TPU)
  4. Orient the model — flat base down, or use auto-orient for organic shapes
  5. Set layer height (0.2mm general, 0.1mm for fine detail)
  6. Enable supports if needed — tree supports for organic shapes, normal for flat overhangs
  7. Run calibration prints first if printing a new filament (OrcaSlicer has built-in flow/PA tests)
  8. Slice, preview the gcode, export to SD/USB or send via LAN/AMS

FAQ — 3D Models for OrcaSlicer

What file formats does OrcaSlicer support?

OrcaSlicer supports STL, 3MF, OBJ, AMF, and STEP for input. STL is the most common format — every 3D model marketplace exports STL and OrcaSlicer imports it directly. 3MF is the recommended modern format: it stores geometry, print settings, multi-material color assignments, plate arrangements, and filament profiles in one file. 3MF files from Bambu Studio (or created in OrcaSlicer itself) open with all settings preserved. OrcaSlicer also supports STEP import for precise CAD geometry, and exports to .gcode, .bgcode (Bambu), and 3MF. FBX and GLB are not supported natively without conversion.

Is OrcaSlicer compatible with Bambu Lab, Prusa, and Creality printers?

Yes. OrcaSlicer is an open-source fork of Bambu Studio with extended printer compatibility. It supports Bambu Lab printers (X1C, P1S, A1, A1 Mini) natively, plus hundreds of third-party FDM printers including Prusa MK4/MINI, Creality Ender/CR/K1, Voron designs, Bambu clones, Anycubic Kobra, Qidi, and community-built machines. OrcaSlicer includes a built-in calibration suite (flow rate, pressure advance, temperature tower, retraction) that Bambu Studio lacks, making it popular with Bambu users who want finer control. Simply select your printer from the built-in profiles or add a custom machine.

How do I import an STL into OrcaSlicer?

Drag and drop the STL file onto the OrcaSlicer build plate, or use File → Import → Import Model. OrcaSlicer auto-centers and orients the model. You can then use the left-side tools to move, scale, rotate, and cut the model. For 3MF files with pre-configured settings, use File → Open Project to load the entire plate configuration including print settings. OrcaSlicer also supports drag-and-drop of multiple files at once — handy for batch printing. After placing and configuring your model, click Slice Plate and review the gcode preview before exporting to your printer via USB, SD, or AMS/LAN.

What makes an STL model print-ready for OrcaSlicer?

A print-ready model for OrcaSlicer has: (1) Watertight (manifold) mesh — no holes or non-manifold edges; OrcaSlicer has a mesh repair tool but clean geometry always slices better. (2) Correct dimensions — designed in real-world mm units, not arbitrary scale. (3) Appropriate wall thickness — minimum 1.2mm for 0.4mm nozzle (3 perimeters), 0.8mm minimum for thin features. (4) Overhangs ≤ 45° where possible, or designed with bridging in mind. (5) Flat base or designed orientation — models with a flat bottom need no brim; tilted models may need one. High-quality Proofly models include print orientation notes, recommended layer height, and infill suggestions.

Does OrcaSlicer support multi-color AMS printing?

Yes. OrcaSlicer fully supports Bambu AMS (Automatic Material System) multi-color printing, including the multi-color painting tools for manually assigning filament colors to model faces, and direct import of pre-colored 3MF files. OrcaSlicer also supports multi-material printing on non-Bambu printers via MMU2S/ERCF toolchanger profiles. For multi-color STL prints, use OrcaSlicer's built-in color painting tool to assign different filaments to different faces of the model. Pre-colored 3MF files from Bambu Handy or MakerWorld load their color assignments automatically in OrcaSlicer.

Are there free 3D models on Proofly for OrcaSlicer?

Yes. Proofly has a free tier — use the Free filter in the marketplace to find zero-cost STL and 3MF downloads. Free models still receive HiddenMark steganographic watermarking on each download, so creators can offer files freely while retaining authorship tracing. For functional prints (brackets, organizers, tools), also check the free section in the Gadgets and Accessories categories. Paid models on Proofly start from under $3 and include a permanent license — no subscription, no per-use fee.
