Character 3D Models
Buy rigged and animated character 3D models for games, VR, and film. Heroes, NPCs, monsters, and VTuber avatars in FBX and GLB. Inspect every mesh in the 3D viewer before you buy. Creators keep 100%.
Character Types — What to Look For
Different character archetypes have different rig requirements, polygon budgets, and texture workflows. Knowing which type you need saves time on integration.
Humanoid Hero / Player Character
Action RPGs, shooters, platformers, fighting gamesFull rig (spine to finger tips), blend shapes for facial animation, LODs for distant views, 30k–80k tris PC budget. Usually includes idle, walk, run, attack animation set.
NPC / Background Character
Open-world games, city simulators, background crowd systemsSimplified rig (no finger bones), lower poly (5k–20k), shared texture atlases for batching, minimal blend shapes. Designed to fill scenes without performance cost.
Fantasy Character
Fantasy RPGs, tabletop companion apps, DnD encountersNon-human proportions, cloth simulation bones (capes, robes), weapon attachment sockets, stylized or realistic PBR textures. Often sold with modular armor pieces.
Sci-Fi / Military
Shooters, RTS, sci-fi RPGs, space simsHard-surface armor over organic base mesh, visor/screen emissive maps, weapon rigs. PBR metallic workflow with roughness variation across armor panels.
Creature / Monster
Horror games, fantasy RPGs, survival games, boss encountersNon-humanoid rig; quadruped or multi-limb skeleton needs custom animation blueprints. Often includes morph targets for face deformation and damage states.
VTuber / VR Avatar
VTubing, VRChat worlds, VR social platformsAnime-proportioned, optimized for Quest constraints (≤20k tris), PhysBones for spring hair and cloth, face tracking blend shapes, VRChat SDK ready.
Low-Poly Stylized
Mobile games, hyper-casual, browser games, indie projects500–5,000 tris, vertex colors or minimal textures, simple rig with basic IK, strong silhouettes over surface detail. Mobile-first.
Polygon Budgets & Formats by Platform (2026)
Proofly lists polygon count on every model page. Use this table to decide whether a character fits your target platform before buying.
| Platform | Best format | Poly budget | Texture size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unity (Humanoid) | FBX | 15k–80k tris (PC) · 5k–15k (mobile) | 2048–4096 (PC) · 1024 (mobile) | Humanoid Avatar auto-maps Mixamo bones; retarget any Animator clip |
| Unreal Engine 5 | FBX | 20k–120k tris (nanite: unlimited) | 2048–4096; 8192 for hero | Nanite for hero assets; SK_Mannequin skeleton for retargeting |
| Godot 4 | GLB/GLTF (native) | 10k–60k tris | 1024–2048 | Skeleton3D + AnimationPlayer; retargeting via AnimationRetargeting |
| VRChat / VR Avatar | FBX → Unity package | ≤70k tris (Quest: ≤20k) | 2048 max (Quest: 1024) | Needs VRChat SDK; PhysBones for hair/cloth; 1 skinned mesh renderer preferred |
| Three.js / Babylon.js | GLB/GLTF | 5k–40k (browser perf) | 1024–2048; KTX2/Basis compressed | SkinnedMesh + AnimationMixer; morph targets for facial expressions |
| Blender (render) | FBX, GLB, OBJ | No hard limit (Cycles/EEVEE render) | 4096–8192 or procedural | Import, rig in Armature, render or re-export; SubDiv for close-up renders |
Humanoid Rig vs Custom Rig — Integration Differences
Humanoid Rig
- Auto-retargeting — Unity Humanoid Avatar maps any Mixamo/standard clip automatically
- IK support — engine IK solvers work without custom setup
- Shared animations — one walk cycle pack works on all humanoid characters
- Unreal IK Retargeter — retarget Mannequin animations to custom proportions
- Bone naming must match engine convention (Hips, Spine, Chest…)
Custom Rig (Creatures, Vehicles)
- Flexible skeleton — any bone count, any naming; creature-specific joints
- Creature-specific motion — quadruped locomotion, wing flaps, tentacle IK
- Unreal Animal Control Rig — procedural secondary motion without hand-keying
- No auto-retargeting — animation must be made for this skeleton
- More integration work — custom Animation Blueprints required
Tip: Listings that mention "Mixamo compatible" or "Epic skeleton" have humanoid rigs designed for easy engine integration. Look for this in the description or tags before purchasing a character you plan to animate extensively.
PBR Texture Workflow for Characters
Modern game engines use a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) pipeline. A complete character texture set includes four maps — missing any one degrades quality significantly.
Albedo / Diffuse (Color)
Base color of the surface with no lighting baked in. Most important map — always present.
_albedo, _diffuse, _colorNormal Map
Encodes surface micro-detail (pores, wrinkles, stitching) without adding polygons. OpenGL or DirectX convention — check if your engine needs Y-flipped.
_normal, _n, _nrmRoughness / Metallic (ORM)
Controls how shiny/matte and metallic/non-metallic the surface is. Often packed into a single ORM texture (R=Occlusion, G=Roughness, B=Metallic).
_roughness, _metallic, _ormAmbient Occlusion
Pre-baked shadowing in crevices (armpits, ears, fabric folds). Sometimes baked into the ORM red channel.
_ao, _occlusionEmissive
Self-illuminated areas — eyes, armor LEDs, sci-fi panels. Multiplied by an intensity parameter in the engine material.
_emissive, _glowSubsurface / Translucency
Simulates light scattering through skin for realistic flesh tones. Less common; needed for photorealistic human characters.

Polygon count listed
Estimate performance cost before buying
Rig type specified (Humanoid / Custom)
Humanoid rigs retarget in Unity/Unreal; custom rigs need manual setup
Animation clips included + named
Idle, Walk, Run are minimum viable; check for attack/death
PBR textures included (Albedo, Normal, Roughness)
Correct materials in modern engines; metallic or specular workflow
Texture resolution stated
4096 for PC hero; 1024 for mobile NPC — mismatch wastes VRAM
FBX and/or GLB in the download
FBX for game engines; GLB for web/Godot; both = maximum flexibility
Blend shapes / morph targets for face
Needed for lip sync, blink, and facial expression systems
Commercial license
Required for any product distributed to players or sold
